AntiCarb QL
AntiCarb QL
Water based and water removable
Anticarburising compound
AntiCarb QL : Finally, a solution for heat treaters who prefer to use water based compound and wants the residue to be remove without need of shot blasting.
Carburising masking compounds are generally offered with carrier such as solvent or water. While water based masking compounds require post heat treatment cleaning method such as shot blasting, use of thinner based masking compounds is restricted due to ISO 14000 conditions. Hence, heat treaters needed water based masking compound which can also be removed without post mechanical cleaning method such as shot blasting.
At AstroMet, we heard our customers’ requirement and after continuous development, developed AntiCarb QL, a Quantum Leap in this field of masking compounds. This water based masking compound is for protection against gas carburising where residue is removed in hot water bath without need of shot blasting etc.. Truly, a boon for ISO 14000 organisations, where use of solvent based masking compounds is restricted.
Typical use of this AntiCarb QL is for protection of threads from carburising or as general carburising masking compound where thinner based masking compounds such as our AntiCarb CS cannot be used due to ISO restrictions.
AntiCarb QL ( Light Green coloured) is highly effective water based masking compound for gas carburizing / carbonitriding in heat treatment furnaces for case depths up to 2mm.
AntiCarb QL is free of any solvents, which is of prime importance with respect to health and safety regulation. It is also recommended for organisations under ISO 14000.
Instructions for use
JOB PREPARATION :
No special job preparation is required. Just ensure jobs free of oil, grease dirt or rust etc. preferably by cleaning with solvent or alkaline hot water but must be completely dried prior to coating.
APPLICATION :
Stir the compound thoroughly before and during use, preferably with copper rod. Take the required quantity of compound in working container and close the lid of this container immediately. If required, mix clean water in working container to bring the compound in brushing / dipping consistency. Avoid over thinning. Use flat brush of soft fine hairs for brushing.
Apply one thin and uniform coating of about 0.2 mm and allow coating to dry. Though one coat is generally sufficient for case depths up to 1mm, two thin coats are often used to assure best results even for 1.5m-2mm case depth. Excessive thick coating should be avoided since coating may prone to crack. It is advisable to give multiple thin coats than to give thick first coating. Total coating thickness should be 0.3mm to 0.5 mm. Under any circumstances, base metal must not be seen thro’ the coating.
DRYING :
Thorough drying of coating prior to loading in carburising furnace is essential or else coating may crack during heat treatment process. Air drying for about 30 to 60 minutes in dry place may be sufficient even during heavy monsoon. Air dried coated components may be stored for long time in clean & dry atmosphere. Preheating is strongly recommended for better and thorough drying of coating. However preheated components should not be stored and must be immediately loaded into carburising furnace. Coating when dried must be firm and not spongy. Dried components may be loaded in furnace fixtures avoiding coating damage / contact with other components.
REMOVAL:
AntiCarb QL coating generally do not need any special removal process after heat treatment. Residue may be washed off with hot water rinse or if necessary, by simple mechanical means.
SAFETY :
AntiCarb QL coating should be used with adequate ventilation. Wash hands before eating or smoking. If taken internally induce vomiting, consult a physician immediately.
